Seven held for human trafficking in Benapole

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained seven people, including a trafficker at Benapole while trying to illegally cross over to India.

BGB Subedar Samsur Rahman of Khulna 23 BGB Batallion said they were detained during a raid at Putkhali border on Friday night.

The detained trafficker has been identified as Abdul Rashid.

Those detained are, ‘Robin’, 18, Parvez Alam, 18, Babita Adhikari, 19, and Shiuly Begam, 20.

Cox’s Bazar’s Farida Begam, 22, and her infant son Rabiul Hasan were rescued from being trafficked into India in another raid.
Rashid, a resident of the district’s Ukhiya police station, has been charged of human trafficking in both the cases.

Subedar Samsur Rahman told bdnews24.com that BGB patrols initiated the raids following a tip off that some brokers were trafficking people into India.

They were nabbed from the border.

The detainees were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.

OC Apurba Hasan confirmed that a case of crossing border illegally was filed in the police station over the incident.

They would be produced in Jessore Court on Saturday noon, he said.
