Ambassador Shiro Sadoshima in Dhaka handed them over to the Centre on Tuesday in a brief ceremony at the embassy.

Akie Abe visited Dhaka on Sep 6 and 7 with her husband Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

She had been at the Baptist Mission Integrated School at Mirpur and the Dhaka Nursing College next to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital during the visit.

According to the Japanese embassy, the 45 books, journals and magazines on Japanese culture and lifestyle the first lady donated also include some books she authored.

The books would be kept in the “Akie Library” at the Study Centre.

The ambassador Sadoshima hoped that the students of the Study Centre would make the “best use of these new study materials to better understand Japan and the Japanese language”.

Assistant Professor Abdullah-Al-Mamun, lecturer Md. Jahangir Alam, and a few student representatives received the book on behalf of the Centre.

Mamun thanked the first lady for the gift that he said was a symbol of “Japan-Bangladesh Comprehensive Partnership”.

Both sides embarked on the Partnership during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Tokyo visit in May.
