Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 on Sunday accepted prosecution's plea to add Section 6 of the Explosives Act and fixed Sept 21 for the next hearing.

Section 6 empowers the government to ban production, import or possession of serious explosives. The offenders can be sentenced to up to 10 years in jail for violating it.

"Charge framing under Section 3 of the Explosives Act and Section 26 of the Special Power Act in this case on Apr 16, 2009 by Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-1 was defective," tribunal's special prosecutor Abu Abdullah Bhuiyan explained.
Ten people were killed and scores were injured in the bombing at a Pahela Baishakh programme at Ramna in 2001.
A murder case and another under the Explosives Act were filed over the incident.
Eight years later, the CID pressed charges against 14 people, including Harkat Ul Jihad Al Islami (HUJI) leader Mufti Abdul Hannan, on Nov 29, 2008.
The Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 sentenced eight to death, including Hannan, and six to life on June 23 this year in the murder case.
