He said on Friday that the first shipment of equipment from China for the bridge construction had reached Bangladesh.

"The second shipment will arrive within Sept 15," he said, while visiting the project at Mawa.

China's SINOHYDRO Corporation and Korea's Hyundai have submitted bids for river management.
After a long tussle with the World Bank over alleged corruption in the project, Bangladesh withdrew its funding request last year.
The government is going ahead with the venture with domestic funds.
The national anti-graft agency said it found 'no proof of corruption or conspiracy’ in the project as claimed by the Washington-based donor.
Bangladesh signed a deal with China Major Bridge Engineering Company Limited for the construction of the main structure of the 6.15-km bridge.
Once commissioned, the bridge is expected to boost the economy by as much as 1.2 percent.
