Brothers get 14 years for acid attack

A court has sentenced two brothers to 14 years of imprisonment for throwing acid at a person following a feud over property eleven years ago.

Netrokona Acid Prevention Tribunal-2 judge Md Abdul Hamid pronounced the sentence on Wednesday noon.

In addition to imprisonment, each of them has also been fined Tk 10,000.

In case of failure to pay the fine, they will have to spend extra one year in the prison.

The convicted are Abdur Rashid and his brother Saiful of Gamruli village in Kendua Upazila, Netrokona.
State prosecutor Abdul Kader Bhuiyan told the court that Abdur Rashid and Saiful went to Abdur Razzak's residence on the night of May 21, 2003 and threw acid at him.
Razzak suffered severe burn injuries in that attack.
The following day, Razzak’s father Md Wahed filed a case at Kendua Police station.
Police submitted a charge sheet on June 19, 2003 against the two brothers.
