Families seek justice for 2004 grenade attack victims

The families of Atik Ullah Sarkar and Abdul Kuddus killed in a grenade attack on an Awami League rally in 2004 have urged authorities to speed up the trial.

Kuddus and Sarkar were Swecchasebak League leaders from Chandpur's Haimchar and Matlab Uttar Upazilas respectively.

"My mother died without seeing justice being served for her son," Kuddus' elder brother Humayun Kabir Patwari told bdnews24.com.

He demanded that his brother's killers be punished.

"It has been 10 years," said Atik's wife Laili Begum. "We want exemplary punishment for those behind the grenade attack."

The attack on then opposition Awami League's rally on Aug 21, 2004 left 22 party activists dead and at least 500 injured.
