Husband ‘kills’ wife after gang-rape

A husband has allegedly killed his wife after having her gang-raped by friends at Titas Upazila in Comilla.

Titas police recovered the body of Salma Akter, 18, from a bush in Gazipur village on Sunday. The body bore marks of injuries by sharp weapons.

Titas Police Station OC Tareque Md Abdul Hannan said Salma’s husband Yusuf Mia, 23, confessed to stabbing her to death after his friends took turns with her.

Yusuf married Salma, daughter of Mehraz Mia, just one and a half months back.

Police arrested Yusuf in the case filed by Salma’s father over the murder.

The body will be autopsied at the Comilla Medical College and Hospital.

Mehraz Mia told reporters that Yusuf killed Salma after having her gang-raped by his friends as her family refused pay him dowry.

OC Hannan said: “In primary questioning Yusuf admitted that he wanted to sell his wife’s gold ornaments weighing 2 bhoris (23.33 grams). He killed her after gang-rape by friends as she did not allow (the sale).”

Police did not disclose names of the purported rapists ‘in the interest of investigation’.

The OC said drives were going on to arrest them.

Mia said Yusuf was trying to extort dowry from them even after they gave him Tk 50,000 in cash and 23.33 grams of gold ornament at the marriage ceremony.
