Man leaves wife’s body behind

A husband has fled leaving behind the body of his wife at the Madaripur Sadar Hospital.

Shipon Begum, 32, wife of Belayet Hossain, a villager in Raipur Union in Shariatpur Sadar Upazila, had been brought to the hospital on Friday morning.

Hospital doctor Altaf Hossain said: “Around 9am, Belayet and several others brought Shipon to hospital. Belayet said his wife had drunk poison. The housewife was pronounced dead after examination. Belayet demanded the dead body, but we told him about our obligation to do autopsy and complete other legal formalities.”

The man told the doctors to do whatever was required and left the hospital, not to been again, the doctor said.

The hospital got in touch with the police. OC Mofajjal Hossain of the Madaripur Police Station said, “The hospital has been directed to carry out the autopsy. Belayet’s whereabouts will be located by contacting the relevant police stations.”

The news of Shipon’s death would be conveyed to her father, the OC added.
