The authorities have said they would construct the wall by May 12.

“We have put off our agitation until May 12. If the permanent wall is not built by then we will resume agitation,” said Abu Ahad Caeser, spokesperson for the agitating students.

He said they would return to classes on Tuesday.

The students abstained from classes for the third consecutive day on Monday to press for their seven-point charter of demands.

That was put forward after last week’s robbery in the girls’ hostel.

The authorities initially wanted to erect a barbed wire fence between the hospital and college but later changed the decision in the face of the students’ agitation.

The intern doctors of the medical college also expressed solidarity with the students and abstained from work. They, however, joined work later.

On Apr 17, a band of armed youths broke into a dormitory of the first-year students on the first floor and looted valuables.
