Siddique, husband of award-winning environmental lawyer Syeda Rizwana Hasan, was abducted from Narayanganj while he was on his way back to Dhaka on Wednesday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam told a media briefing on Saturday that they were examining the victim’s statement to find who were behind the abduction.

The abductors freed Siddique in the early hours of Friday at Dhaka’s Mirpur area. On Friday, he deposed before a Narayanganj court.

Two committees - one by the police headquarters, the other by Narayanganj police - have been formed to probe the abduction.

Narayanganj’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Nurul Islam said on Saturday, "The investigation will continue despite the victim’s freedom. The police are looking into Siddique’s statement given to the court.”

Meanwhile, the driver of the auto-rickshaw, which carried Siddique to Dhanmondi after he was freed, has given his statement earlier in the day at the court of Narayanganj’s Senior Judicial Magistrate Monowara Begum.
