276,000 vacant posts in administration

As many as 275, 964 posts at different ministries are currently vacant, State Minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadique has said.

She revealed the figure in Parliament on Sunday responding to a question by Awami League MP Enamul Haque.

Replying to another query from Jatiya Party MP AKM Mayeedul Islam, Sadique said officials in the administration now are at 2,603. Of whom, 265 have been made OSD (Officer on Special Duty).

There are 62 secretaries, 304 additional secretaries, 927 joint secretaries and 1,310 deputy secretaries, said the junior minister.

Of the OSDs, there are three secretaries, 46 additional secretaries, 139 joint secretaries and 77 deputy secretaries.

Barisal, Comilla get priority

MP AKM Mayeedul Islam had sought lists of secretaries, additional secretaries, joint secretaries and deputy secretaries based on districts and religion.

State Minister of Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadique said the highest number of Secretary-level officials come from Barisal – five out of 62.

The list she presented in Parliament showed that 19 additional secretaries and 43 joint secretaries were from Comilla. Number of deputy secretaries was highest in Chittagong – 61 out of 77.

Out of 62 secretaries, 59 are Muslim and three Hindu. Among the additional secretaries, 258 are Muslim, 40 Hindu, four Buddhist and two Christian.

Of the joint secretaries, 801 are Muslim, 121 Hindu, three Christian and two Buddhist. As many as 1,173 of 1,310 deputy secretaries are Muslim, 128 Hindu, eight Buddhists and one Christian.
