Farewell to Khaled Khan

Fans, friends, relatives and colleagues bid final farewell to popular theatre and TV actor Khaled Khan on Saturday.

He was taken to his last workplace, University of Liberal Arts campus at Dhanmondi in the morning. He was a teacher and a treasurer of the University.

The mortal remains were then taken to Dhaka's Shaheed Minar for everyone to pay their last tributes.

His funeral prayers were held at the Central Mosque at Dhaka University after which the body was taken to the Shilpakala Academy for people to pay homage to the popular actor.

Relatives left for Tangail with the body in the afternoon.

He will be laid to rest in his ancestral home in Tangail's Mirzapur, the family had earlier informed.

Khaled Khan was admitted to BIRDEM Hospital on Monday evening in critical condition. He was suffering from progressive motor neuron disease for a long time.

Hospital authorities said he was also suffering from heart disease. He was on life support since then. Khan was born in Tangail on Feb 9, 1958.

He started his career in theatre in the 1980s after receiving masters' degree from the Dhaka University in 1983.

He gained much popularity both on television and on stage for the numerous roles he played.

‘Rupnagar’ made him very popular with the viewers.

His role in Humayun Ahmed’s ‘Eisob Dinratri’ also added to his popularity.

He played top roles in more than 30 plays including ‘Dewan Gazir Kissa’, ‘Nurul Din er Sara Jibon’ and ‘Darpan’ for Nagarik Natya Sampraday and directed over 10 plays including ‘Putul Khela’ and ‘Kkhudito Pashan’.

Before falling ill, he played the role of ‘Bishu Pagla’ in the play ‘Rokto Karabi’ of Nagarik Natyangan.

He had also directed Subachan Natya Sangsad’s play ‘Rupaboti’.

Khan has left behind his singer wife Mita Haque and daughter Farhin Khan Joyeeta.
