During the procession, the Mancha activists shouted anti-Jamaat and anti-Hifazat slogans, bdnews24.com’s Ashik Hossain reports from the spot.

He said tension ran high as words came out that Hifazat activists, who are expected to hold a rally at Motijheel, were advancing towards Shahbagh, where the Mancha activists had been demonstrating for three months now.

On Apr 6, several activists of the Hifazat had tried to advance towards Shahbagh after a rally but were barred by the Mancha activists. Hifazat activists had exploded several crude bombs as they retreated on the day.

The Mancha took out the second procession, brandishing sticks, around Sunday noon protesting against Jamaat-e-Islami and its student affiliate, Islami Chhatra Shibir, and Hifazat’s 13-point charter of demands.

A large number of police have been deployed at Shahbagh to maintain order.
