Skidding bus kills 3 in Jhenaidah

Three people died and 50 others were injured Saturday when a bus lost control and fell into a roadside ditch at Halidhani on Jhenaidah-Chuadanga highway, police said.

Jhenaidah, Aug 9 (bdnews24.com) – Three people died and 50 others were injured Saturday when a bus lost control and fell into a roadside ditch at Halidhani on Jhenaidah-Chuadanga highway, police said.
The accident occurred around 7am when the Khulna-bound bus from Meherpur lost control while trying to avoid hitting a pick-up van coming from the opposite direction. Some of the passengers jumped off the bus, and three of them were killed instantly when the bus ran over them.
The dead were identified as Ziaur Rahman, 33, son of Nekbar Ali of Nathkundu village under Jhenaidah sadar upazila, Jahir Uddin, 32, son of Wadud Ali and Shahjaha, 32, son of Bahar Ali of Kaxmipur village under Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga.
Most of the passengers were injured.
Sanwar Hossain, an injured passenger, said that the bus was running fast and suddenly veered off the road.
"I don't know what happened next," he said.
People rushed the injured to hospitals.
Jhenaidah assistant police super Nazrul Islam and sadar police station chief Kazi Wazed Ali said that they had sent the three bodies for autopsy.
The bus driver fled the scene, Wazed said.
