Heavy rainfall in Netrokona, Kurigram and Comilla: crops submerged

Dhaka, June 2 (BDNEWS) - Heavy rainfall across the country inundated the low lands and crops in some areas with rivers erosion in different districts.
According to BDNEWS Netrokona correspondent, the bordering upazila Durgapur and Kalmakanda in Netrokona were submerged by flash flood caused by the uninterrupted heavy rainfall. Beside, the road communication of Kendua, Durgapur and Kalmakanda with Netrokona was snapped.
The Shibganj-Ranikhang road, the only road communication between Durgapur upazila sadar and bordering villages, was engulfed by the Shomeshwary river.
Kurigram correspondent of BDNEWS said the district's rivers and waterbodies are witnessing increasing water level and erosion. In last 24 hours, 50 families of Shimulbari and Boraloi villages and 55 families of Bidyananda and Char Bazra area under Fulbari upazila have lost everything caused by the river erosion.
The flood control dam of the district is now at risk due to the erosion of the Dhorola River. Besides, the flood control dam at Putimari area under Chilmari upazila is also at risk due to erosion.
According to Comilla correspondent of BDNEWS, sesame, jute, vegetables and Aush crops in 10,000 acres land of 16 upazillas in Comilla were inundated caused by sudden heavy rainfall. The cultivation is also being hampered due to water log.
According to Agricultural Extension Department of Comilla, target cultivation of Aush paddy in 125,000 hectors of land in 16 upazilla will not be achieved due to heavy rainfall.
