Natore, Dec 28 (BDNEWS) – In major onslaught on law enforcers, armed members of an outlawed party ransacked a police camp at remote Bamihal in Chalan Bil area in Singra upazila of Natore Wednesday evening killing three members of Ansar and wounding several others.
The killed were identified as Abdul Aziz, Abdul Gafur and Abdul Momin.
The attackers also took away eight rifles and one light machine gun (LMG) from the camp.
The account of ammunition looted by the outlawed members could not be ascertained immediately.
Quoting locals, police said a group of armed outlaws in guise of people came to local market and attacked the camp during the Magreb prayers.
At that time, most of the Ansar members had gone to offer prayers.
They said the armed attackers opened fire on the Ansar members present at the camp prompting them to retaliate triggering a fierce gunfight.
After three Ansar members fell on the ground and several others received wounds, they retreated.
The attackers left the spot along with eight rifles and one LMG with chanting slogans in the name of Purba Banglar Communist Party.
Quoting local people, the police said that the bandits proceeded towards Tarash in Sirajganj district.
Ten Ansar men were posted in the camp as regular policemen, excepting in-charge assistant sub-inspector Fazlur Rahman, were taken for Prime Minister's duty as she visited Naldanga in the district Wednesday.
Fazlur Rahman and several Ansar members were injured in the shootout.
Locals said Purba Banglar Communist Party is active in the area.
Senior police officials, including SP Golam Kibria, rushed to the spot where additional law enforcers were deployed.
They also launched a manhunt in search of the criminals, and looted arms and ammunitions.
Meanwhile, BDNEWS Rajshahi correspondent reports: The armed miscreants at first opened fire on the Ansar members while they were patrolling a nearby market.
After exchange of shots, they looted arms and ammunitions from the slain Ansar members and the camp.
There is an Ansar camp close to the police camp.
