3 to die for killing UP chairman in Faridpur

Three persons have been sentenced to death for the murder of Shahed Ali, chairman of Manikdaha union parishad of Bhanga thana in Faridpur.

Dhaka, July 13 (BDNEWS) – Three persons have been sentenced to death for the murder of Shahed Ali, chairman of Manikdaha union parishad of Bhanga thana in Faridpur.
The verdict was delivered Wednesday by AR Masud, judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal number 4, Dhaka. Six other accused persons were acquitted.
The death sentence awardees are – local Juba League leader and rival chairman candidate Aslam Fakir. His accomplice and Chhatra League leader Tara Mia Mridha and Imarat Kazi.
Popular chairman AKM Shahed Ali alias Saheb Mia was shot and hacked on September 25, 2003 by the convicts when returning home on a van from a meeting at Kalibari. Van driver Abul Kalam recognized the criminals. Shahed Ali later died on his way to hospital.
The deceased person's wife Mosammat Parul Akhtari filed a case with Bhanga thana. The charge sheet was submitted on March 12 last year under section 302/307/34 of criminal procedure act.
In a reaction to the verdict Mosammat Parul Akhtari, the current chairman of the union said she was not satisfied.
