Rezaul Karim appointed as Ambassador to Egypt

The government has appointed former ambassador M. M. Rezaul Karim as the next ambassador of Bangladesh to the Arab Republic of Egypt, an official notification said Saturday.

Dhaka, June 18 (BDNEWS) – The government has appointed former ambassador M. M. Rezaul Karim as the next ambassador of Bangladesh to the Arab Republic of Egypt, an official notification said Saturday.
Ambassador M. M. Rezaul Karim, a retired career diplomat and a former secretary to the government, is an advisor to BNP chairperson.
He was High Commissioner to the UK and Sri Lanka and ambassador to China, Soviet Union, Iran and Iraq as well as concurrently accredited as ambassador to Finland, Lebanon, North Korea, Mongolia and the Maldives.
He attended a number of UN and international conferences including UN general assembly sessions, commonwealth heads of government meetings, non-aligned summits, OIC meetings, SAARC summits.
Mr Karim obtained BA (Hons.) degree in Economics from Dhaka University, Master's degree in Public Administration from Karachi University and another MA degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
He is fluent in English, Bengali and French and acquired working knowledge in Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Persian and Russian. He is a newspaper columnist and has several books on contemporary political developments.
Apart from these, he holds important portfolios in different organisations.
He was chairman of the PKSP, chairman of Bangladesh international film festival 2004. He is now president of Comonwealth society of Bangladesh, president Kushtia Association, president of Padma Bridge Implementation Committee.
Ambassador Karim was born in Kushtia in 1935. He is married and has two children.
