Pakistan’s government is going to transfer jailed former prime minister Imran Khan to hospital for urgent eye treatment.

Opposition protests entered a second day and his lawyers petitioned the Islamabad High Court for his release on health grounds, Arab News reports.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said Khan had been allowed to speak to his sons and that a medical board would be formed.

“Providing facilities to every prisoner in accordance with the law is the government’s responsibility,” he said, urging restraint and warning against politicising health matters.

A Supreme Court‑appointed lawyer reported earlier this month that Khan, 73, had suffered severe vision loss in his right eye due to central retinal vein occlusion, leaving him with only 15 percent sight, according to Arab News.

Opposition parties, including Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have staged a sit‑in outside Parliament House demanding his transfer to Islamabad’s Al‑Shifa Hospital.

Family members confirmed he spoke to his sons for 20 minutes and said they were awaiting urgent treatment under his personal doctors, the report said.

Khan’s lawyers have also filed a petition seeking suspension of his December 2025 graft conviction, arguing continued incarceration during appeal would be a miscarriage of justice, it said.
