According to Wildlife Supervisor Md Sarwar Hossain the infant zebra was born naturally on Sunday evening. The mother then carefully helped the infant to stand.

The infant zebra was seen roaming around the park with their mother. The mother was not allowing any other zebras to approach them.

Supervisor Sarwar told bdnews24.com that, “The mother is currently feeding milk to her infant. The newborn zebra will be able to eat grass in a few weeks.”

“The zebras love to live in herds. Every herd has a leader and male zebras fight with each other to get the leading position. The female zebras then allow him to mate.

“The pregnancy period for Zebra is generally 12-13 months. The time of childbirth is usually the rainy season, when there is plenty of grass.”

The manager of the park, Md Sahabuddin, said that five male Zebras and six female Zebras were imported from Africa in 2015 for the park.

He also discussed some of the characteristics of the black-and-white striped animals:

“Their hearing sense is their strongest and they can see well at night. Just like horses, they can hear everything. Not only that, they sometimes convey emotions with their ears as well. When they keep calm, their ear remains normal. When they get scared, their ears lean forwards. When they get angry their ear tilt back. The ears becomes steep when they sense danger.”
