A shipment of corn from the United States arrives in Bangladesh on Wednesday, Jan 7, 2026, the first such import since 2018. Unloading began at a jetty on the Karnaphuli River near the Chittagong Port.
The shipment comprises 57,855 tonnes of "high quality" corn produced in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota
Bangladesh and Indonesia have already agreed to increase purchases, and Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand could follow suit in a bid to lower US tariffs
The floating duty rates on sunflower oil and sunflower meal will be paused until Aug 31
