Over half of Bangladesh's 160 million population now use internet: BTRC

More than half of Bangladesh’s estimated 160 million-strong population, or over 80 million, access the internet and nearly 75 million of them browse the web on mobile phones, according to telecom regulators.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission or BTRC in a recent report said the internet connections in the country stood at 81.66 million at the end of November.

The BTRC report published on its website also said the country's four mobile operators now have 143.1 million customers.

A total of 5,342,000 internet users are connected to internet service providers or public switch telephone network while 88,000 are hooked to WiMAX.

Around the same time last year, the number of internet users was 65.93 million, the report added.
