World Cup final half-time set to stretch up to 25 minutes: BBC

A star-studded music show will take centre stage during the interval in New Jersey

The World Cup final is set to feature a half-time break lasting up to 25 minutes to accommodate a Super Bowl-style entertainment show, the BBC reports.

The final, scheduled for Sunday at 3pm local time (1am Bangladesh time on Monday), will have an 11-minute halftime performance by Madonna, Shakira, and BTS at New York New Jersey Stadium, the British broadcaster said.

According to the BBC, sources within FIFA expect the break to last about 20 minutes. Another option under consideration is to keep the standard 15-minute half-time before staging the planned 11-minute show.

The Laws of the Game, governed by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), say players are entitled to a half-time interval "not exceeding 15 minutes".

Half-time at last year's Club World Cup final, also organised by FIFA and held in New Jersey, ran to 24 minutes in total due to a performance featuring Coldplay, J Balvin, Doja Cat, Tems and Emmanuel Kelly.

Justin Bieber was added to Sunday's line-up last week. He will perform alongside Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 Chorus featuring Coldplay, with Chris Martin curating the show, the BBC said.

The closing ceremony is scheduled to begin at 1:30pm local time on Sunday (11:30pm Bangladesh time on Sunday).

Tom Cruise, Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger, Robbie Williams and IShowSpeed are due to perform during the ceremony, while Jennifer Hudson will sing the United States national anthem.

Spain secured their place in the final by beating France 2-0 in the first semifinal in Dallas on Tuesday.

They will face either England or Argentina, who meet in Atlanta on Wednesday.
