The National Sports Council (NSC) has dissolved the existing ad-hoc committee of the Bangladesh Rowing Federation and approved a new 24-member ad hoc committee headed by Shoeb Chowdhury as president.

Shoeb is a tech entrepreneur, author, diplomat, media personality and sports organiser.

He is also chairman of the editorial board of The Asian Age.

The NSC announced the decision in an official directive, saying the previous committee had failed to hold elections and hand over responsibilities within the timeframe set out in the federation's constitution.

The new committee comprises business leaders, senior law enforcement officials, physicians and former national athletes.

The vice-presidents are Khurshed Alam, former chairman of Islami Bank and former deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank; Md Moniruzzaman, additional inspector general of Bangladesh Police; SMA Aziz Russel, consultant at National Medical College; and Sheikh Jahangir, a former national athlete and sports organiser.

Mohammad Sarfuddin Ali, sports organiser and industrialist, has been named general secretary.

The remaining 15 members include personalities from different sectors, according to the NSC.

Speaking after his appointment, Shoeb said: "My primary objective will be to further strengthen the administrative and organisational structure of the federation, and to successfully conduct the upcoming general elections with utmost transparency."
