Dhaka, April 30 (BDNEWS) – Additional Attorney General AJ Mohammad Ali Saturday appointed as the new Attorney General of the country.
Official sources in the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry said President Prof Dr Iazuddin Ahmed, on Saturday, appointed the new Attorney General.
The appointment will be effective from Sunday.
AJ Mohammad Ali replaced AF Hasan Ariff, who resigned Thursday.
The president accepted the resignation of Hasan Ariff.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Barrister Moudud Ahmed told the reporters at his secretariat office that out going Attorney General AF Hasan Ariff resigned from the office of the Attorney General on health ground.
"There was no conflict between the government and AF Hasan Ariff, and none of the government pressed him for resignation," he said.
Meanwhile, a group of law officers, on Saturday, heaved a sigh of relief on the resignation of AF Hasan Ariff terming him as leftist.
They said AF Hasan Ariff had been directed by the Prime Minister to resign from his office as he could not protect the image and interest of four party alliance government.
"The Attorney General's office, while AF Hasan Arif was discharging the duties of Attorney General, tarnished the image of the four party alliance government," said Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Golam Kibria.
They in the banner of Law Officers Welfare Parishad organised a meeting at a room of the Attorney General's office in the Supreme Court building.
Presided over by president of the Parishad Assistant Attorney General (AAG) Firoz Shah, the meeting was addressed by DAG Golam Mohammad Chowdhury Alal, AAGs MU Ahmed, Zaman Akter Bulbul, Giyasuddin Mithu, Ibrahim Khalil, Waliur Rahman, Sheikh Rezaul Karim. Mohammad Abdullah and Fahima Nasrin Munni.
DAG Golam Mohammad Chowdhury Alal said the out going Attorney General used to keep 50 percent Awami League supporters in the office who were busy to tarnish the image of the government.
Hasan Ariff went to the office of the Attorney General on Saturday and he stayed there till 12-30 pm, sources said.
Newly appointed Attorney General AJ Mohammad Ali is the son of country's first Attorney General MH Khandakar.
A former student of Fouzderhat Cadet College AJ Mohammad Ali is an expert in writs and civil laws as well as in constitutional points of law. He has experience of making good consequence of cases by making plans on the cases.
He completed Masters Degree in Economics from Dhaka University in 1976 and completed LLB from Dhanmondi Law College the same year.
He was enrolled and admitted as an Advocate under regulations of the Bangladesh Bar Council and practiced in the Dhaka bar from 1978 before moving to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court.
He was permitted to practice in the High Court in 1980 and in the Appellate Division in 1985 and he was enrolled as a Senior Advocate in 1999.
