Opposition lawmakers have walked out of parliament after they were not allowed to raise points of order at the end of the day's sitting.

The incident took place on Sunday, during the budget discussion.

The final speaker in the budget discussion was Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

After his speech, two bills were introduced under the supplementary agenda: the Bangladesh Medical University (Second Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the Public Examinations Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

As the Bangladesh Medical University bill was tabled, opposition members objected, saying they had not received copies of the proposed legislation in advance.

They also opposed the decision to send the bill to a special committee.

Opposition MP Najibur Rahman Momen said parliamentary rules required copies of a bill to be circulated at least three days before its introduction, adding that any exemption from the requirement should have been explained to parliament.

He also said the speaker had previously ruled that amendment bills should be accompanied by comparative tables, but such documents had not been provided for recent legislation.

Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal, who was presiding over the session, rejected the objections, saying all procedural requirements had been met.

He said notice of the bill had been issued on Jun 15 and copies circulated on Jun 23.

"We have records showing that the notices and copies were provided more than three days in advance," he said.

Opposition members insisted they had not received the bill.

The deputy speaker replied that parliamentary records showed the bill had been properly tabled, adding that similar complaints would be taken into consideration in future.
