The party will now organise the protests across the capital and metropolitan and districts centres, said Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday.
“Police by not giving permission for our rally at Suhrawardy Udyan have proved that it raided Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s office as part of a government conspiracy,” he said at a media briefing.
The denial of permission led the party to organise protests across the country, he said.
The police in a surprise move raided the Gulshan office of former prime minister Khaleda on the morning of May 20. Nothing was found and the government said the raid was based on intel reports.
BNP condemned the raid as undemocratic and sought permission from the authorities to stage a protest rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on May 24.
Rizvi said one of the letters was sent to Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He said the police turned down the request without any explanation.
“In the democratic system, all ills and irregularities are protested. But they wouldn’t let us do so, which means the office raid was part of a bigger plot.”
