BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said those attempting to create confusion around the electoral environment are “obstructing” the nation’s democratic transition.

Speaking virtually at a Janmashtami event in Dhaka, he cautioned that such efforts could ease the way for the reinstatement of autocratic forces if conditions are continually manipulated.

“Those trying to cloud the situation ahead of elections may, perhaps unknowingly, be obstructing the path to democratic transition,” Tarique said.

Tarique called on allies of the democratic movement to avoid internal disputes being exploited by the defeated “fascists” to justify their past wrongdoings.

He emphasised that while differing opinions are natural, unity is essential on issues related to preventing the return of autocracy, safeguarding sovereignty, and protecting national interests.
