National Citizen Party Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain has demanded that members of law-enforcing agencies accused of committing crimes against humanity during the Awami League regime be brought to justice.

He made the call while speaking at Shaheed Abu Sayed Square outside Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur on Saturday.

He said, “Some [Army] generals were involved in enforced disappearances and murders to gain Sheikh Hasina’s favour.

“They have destroyed families, as well as the entire democracy of Bangladesh. They have tarnished the dignity of the Army.”

Moreover, Hasina’s government could not rise as a “fascist” without enforced disappearances and killings by security forces, he added.

“If the Army, RAB, police, BGB, and intelligence agencies are to be made into people’s institutions, they must be brought to justice.

“We applaud those supporting the July movement and demand swift arrest and justice for its opponents.”

He called for trials and necessary reforms to be made before the national elections, reflecting July’s aspirations.
