The government's push to bring former prime minister Sheikh Hasina back from India is continuing without any diplomatic setback, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam says.
Speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, Shama said the process had begun under the interim government and was reactivated after the formation of the new elected government.
"The process takes time," she said when asked about the government's efforts to bring Hasina back to Bangladesh.
"There is no shortfall in diplomacy. The process is ongoing," she said.
Asked whether the government had any update on the matter, the state minister indicated that the relevant authorities were continuing their work.
"The home ministry is also working on the issue. The process is continuing," she said.
Hasina has been staying in India since leaving Bangladesh following the July Uprising.
She has since been sentenced to death in a case involving crimes against humanity linked to the July Uprising.
The Bangladesh government has repeatedly stated that it is pursuing legal and diplomatic channels to secure her return from India to face the remaining judicial proceedings.
However, officials have acknowledged that extradition involves legal procedures and diplomatic engagement between the two countries, making the process time-consuming.
