NCP asks for ‘clear implementation roadmap’ before July Charter is signed

The National Citizen Party Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain has said that the July National Charter can only be implemented properly if everything is “made clear” to the nation before it is signed, “fulfilling all expectations”.

He made the remarks at an emergency meeting of the National Consensus Commission on Wednesday evening, chaired by the chief advisor.

“We want the path to implementing the July Charter to be clarified before we move forward with signing it,” Akhtar said.

Although the government is preparing to sign the July Charter on Friday, political parties remain divided over how it should be implemented.

To resolve these differences and dispel uncertainty surrounding the signing, the commission called the meeting with leaders from different parties and alliances, led by its President Muhammad Yunus.

Presenting the NCP’s stance, Akhtar said they have reached this point by shedding blood and sacrificing many lives.

He added that they have worked for a long time through “unprecedented discussions” to draft the July Charter, to ensure that “fascism” never returns and they don’t stray from the “democratic path”.

“But some issues have created concern among us at the last moment. No initiative can succeed while keeping the nation in the dark. In the draft we received, the notes of dissent have not been clearly addressed, which must be defined.”

He added that a “clear roadmap for implementation” is essential.

“The declaration we received and discussed for a month does not clearly outline it. We have proposed that an executive order be issued to enforce it,” he said.

The NCP expects the chief advisor to issue that order as head of the interim government.
