Returning Officer Yunus Ali made the announcement on Tuesday after the deadline to withdraw nominations ended.

Three candidates had collected the nomination papers but only Murshedy, now an industrialist, submitted his.

The two other candidates were the Jatiya Party’s SM Anisur Rahman and independent candidate Sheikh Habibur Rahman.

Envoy Group Managing Director Murshedy, a former president of the garment entrepreneurs’ body BGMEA, got the ruling Awami League’s ticket for the by-election slated for Sept 20.

The Khulna seat covering Rupsa, Dighalia and Terokhada areas fell vacant after the death of the Awami League’s SM Mostafa Rashidi Suja on July 26.
