The party's acting chief Mujibur Rahman announced the protests on Tuesday, according to a news release from the party's publicity cell.

Besides the shutdown, the party will organise countrywide demonstrations on Wednesday and special prayers on Friday.

The announcement came after a court remanded the eight Jamaat leaders, including its chief Maqbul Ahmed, Secretary General Shafiur Rahman and policymaking body member former MP Mia Golam Parwar, in two cases.

Jamaat has made ATM Masum the acting secretary general now.

The eight were arrested at Uttara in Dhaka on Monday night. Police said they met at a house to 'plan to create political anarchy'.

A Dhaka court granted a five-day remand on Tuesday for questing by the investigators.
