Ex-law minister Khasru made AL Presidium Member, Rezaul Legal Affairs Secretary

Former law minister Abdul Matin Khasru has been made a member of the Awami League Presidium, its highest policymaking forum.

The newest Presidium member, Khasru, had been serving as legal affairs secretary in the Central Working Committee for the past six years.

He served as law minister in Sheikh Hasina’s 1996 cabinet.

Supreme Court lawyer SM Rezaul Karim will replace the four-time Comilla-5 MP as new legal affairs secretary.

The party’s Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul Alam Hanif confirmed bdnews24.com of these changes in the committee on Friday night.

“Party President Sheikh Hasina has chosen them with the mandate given by the councillors at the 20th National Council last October,” he said.

Former Bangabandhu Ainjibi Parishad joint secretary Rezaul Karim was one of the lawyers in the cases over the August Bangabandhu assassination and November Jail Killings, both of which took place in 1975.

He is currently an elected member of the Bangladesh Bar Council and heads its finance committee. Karim also served as the Supreme Court Bar Association’s secretary in the past.

In the 81-strong Awami League Central Working Committee, two Presidium member seats and one committee member post are still vacant.
