Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Noor Nahar Yasmin issued the order to send Farroque to jail when he surrendered and sought bail for six cases on Sunday.

The magistrate rejected Farroque's bail petitions in four of the cases, said Taherul Islam Touhid, the lawyer for the BNP leader.

Touhid said they told the court in the petitions for bail that the BNP leader was sick and was still suffering from pain due to surgery on his leg.

Police started the cases against Farroque in January 2015, when the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami had announced road blockade programme that led to widespread violence on the street.

They announced the programme a year after the Jan 5, 2014, election which the opposition alliance dubbed "voteless elections".

The cases were filed for alleged 'sabotage' in Paltan, National Press Club and Baqitul Mukarram areas.
