They withdrew their names on Wednesday night, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif told bdnews24.com on Thursday.

Bobby and Saima were named as councillors for Dhaka north and Dhaka south respectively for the National Council of the ruling party slated for Oct 22-23.

Sheikh Hasina's daughter Saima, better known by her nickname Putul, is an US-licensed school psychologist and a member of the Expert Advisory Panel on mental health to WHO.

Sheikh Rehana's son Bobby is a consultant to the United Nations Development Programme and a trustee of the Awami League's research cell Centre for Research and Information (CRi). He is working as the head of strategy and programme wing of the centre.

Hanif said: "The service conduct rules of their employers prevent them from joining a political party. So they have withdrawn their names."

Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy and Putul's husband Khandker Mashrur Hossain will represent Rangpur and Faridpur respectively at the council.
