The ruling party’s Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif revealed this to journalists on Wednesday.

Shah-e-Alam Murad, General Secretary of Dhaka South unit, told bdnews24.com that the prime minister, Rehana and Saima were residents of this part of the capital and so the party had accordingly prepared the list of councillors, honouring them by having them represent the area.

"It is in their honour that the joint general secretary and the office secretary have approved the list of our councillors,” he said.

The prime minister, her sister and daughter hold serial numbers 1, 2 and 3 on the list of councillors, Murad said.

The final list of councillors for Dhaka South will be submitted in a day or two, he said.

The National Council is expected to select the next batch of leadership of the party.

Responsibility for the selection of leaders rests in the hands of the councillors.

Apart from Hasina, whose party position as president makes her an obvious councillor at the meeting, the inclusion of Rehana and Saima means that two of Bangabandhu's daughters and three of his grandchildren will get to attend the upcoming National Council as councillors.

Among the grandchildren of Bangabandhu, the prime minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Rehana's son Radwan Mujib Siddique Bobby, will join Putul, as councillors representing Rangpur and Dhaka North chapters of the party.
