AL to announce its Dhaka metropolitan committees Sunday

The ruling Awami League is set to name its leaders for its Dhaka metropolitan committees 13 years after the formation of its previous committee.

Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif told bdnews24.com that two committees would be announced on Sunday at a press conference.
 
Till now the Awami League has had one committee for the whole of Dhaka city.
 
“This time Dhaka metropolitan has been divided into Dhaka north and south. The names of the leaders of the two committees will be announced tomorrow (Sunday),” Hanif said.
 
The Awami League last formed the three-year committee for its Dhaka city unit in 2003 with Mohammad Hanif as president and Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya as general secretary.
 
MA Aziz took charge as acting president after the death of Hanif in 2007. Aziz died on Jan 23 this year.
 
The council for Dhaka metropolitan unit was held on Dec 27, 2012 when party chief Sheikh Hasina was given the responsibility to choose the new leaders.
 
But the new leaders have not been named yet.
