Pro-AL panel sweeps DUTA

The ruling Awami League and leftist-backed 'Blue Panel' has won the election to Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA), bagging maximum posts.

Dhaka, Dec 29 (bdnews24.com) — The ruling Awami League and leftist-backed 'Blue Panel' has won the election to Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA), bagging maximum posts.
The Blue Panel won 11 posts out of 15, while pro-BNP White Panel four.
Professor Makbulur Rahman, the election commissioner, announced the results on Wednesday afternoon at Dhaka University Club.
Makbulur Rahman said 1255 out of 1700 voters took part in the elections that started from 10am on Wednesday.
Blue Panel convenor Mohammad Anwar Hossain of chemistry and microbiology was elected president while Shahid Akther Hossain of environment department elected general secretary of the association.
About the sweeping victory, president-elect Anwar Hossain told bdnews24.com: "This is a victory of the spirit of our Liberation War. We are happy with the results."
White Panel convenor professor Sadrul Amin told bdnews24.com: "We had hoped to win the election although a good number of teachers were appointed on partisan consideration."
