Dhaka, Dec 22 (bdnews24.com)–The by-elections at Habiganj-1 and Brahmanbaria-3 constituencies will be held on Jan 27 next year.
The candidates can submit their nomination papers for the by-elections until Jan 2 and withdraw Jan 11, said chief election commissioner (CEC) A T M Shamsul Huda while announcing the schedules at the Election Commission Secretariat on Wednesday.
The two seats were left vacant after Awami League MP from Habiganj-1 constituency (comprising of Nabiganj and Bahubal Upazilas) Dewan Farid Gazi died of a heart attack on Nov 19 and another ruling party MP of Brahmanbaria-3 (Sadar Upazila) Lutful Hai Sachchu died on Nov 22.
The parliament secretariat declared the two constituencies vacant after the two MPs had died.
The by-elections after declaring a seat vacant should be held by the next 90 days, which starts from the days they died.
Apart from this, the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination will start in different educational institutions across the country by February, the CEC said. "For these reasons, the by-elections will be held in January."
The EC has already held by-elections at eight constituencies, left vacant by some MPs who were from two or three constituencies left those seats. It also held Bhola-3 by-election on Apr 24 this year.
