Dhaka, Nov 24 (BDNEWS) – Ruling BNP Thursday expelled Abu Hena, MP, from the party for his "anti-organisational" statements over the rise of Islamic militancy in the country.
A press release of BNP said as per section 5(c) of the constitution of BNP, chairperson of the party Begum Khaleda Zia Thursday expelled him and cancelled his primary membership of the party on charge of violating discipline and tarnishing the image of the party and committing misconduct.
The legislator from Rajshahi-3 in media interviews blamed a section of the government for patronising the militants.
In an exclusive interview with a national daily he said that Jamaat-e Islami, one of the partners of BNP-led four-party alliance government, is the chief patron of militant activities in the country.
He said apart from Jamaat-e Islami, Islami Oikay Jote may have connection with the militant activities.
"Two Ministers of Jamaat-e-Islami and Post and Telecommunications Minister Barrister Aminul Haque are doing what is needed for serving the militants. I have time and again conveyed it to the several quarters of the government, but they did not pay any heed to me," he in the interview.
He said that it is needless to say that Bangladesh has become a dangerous state due to the recent militant activities.
"A situation like 1971's has already been created. The only way of government and BNP to get rid of this situation is to disconnect it from Jamaat. Jamaat should not be kept in the government at all. Even, alliance should not be created with Jamaat in the long run. Otherwise, the country will fall in a severe crisis," he commented.
Abu Hena said Al Qaida activist Bangla Bhai, a war-veteran of Afghanistan war, was provided shelter at Baghmara two years ago with a pre-planned target.
"Barrister Aminul Haque and the then SP of Rajshahi Masud Miah provided them (militants) all kinds of assistance. The militants were given same support in Naogaon," he alleged.
Abu Hena in an interview with BBC Bangla service also brought similar allegation against some ruling BNP leaders and high-ups.
