Dhaka, June 8 (BDNEWS) – The third death anniversary of Sabequn Nahar Sony, a student of BUET, was observed through various programmes organised by different student bodies and her friends Wednesday.
Sony, a second year student of chemical engineering of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was killed in crossfire during a gunfight between two factions of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of ruling BNP, on June 8, 2002.
Sony's father Habibur Rahman, mother Dilara Begum and younger brother Rony placed wreaths at the place where she received bullets on the day.
At the time of placing wreaths, her parents burst into tears. Talking to journalists, Habibur Rahman expressed his resentment at the delay of the execution of the verdict of Sony killing case.
The main accused Muki and Tagor are yet to be arrested. The government should take special initiatives to arrest the accused, he added.
Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of main opposition Awami League, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Chhatra Dhara and Sony Memorial Foundation placed wreaths at the commemorative plaque of Sony.
Chhatra League formed a human chain beside the commemorative plaque demanding immediate arrest and punishment of Sony's killers.
