The Pakistan Army has warned that any future conflict with India could lead to “cataclysmic devastation”, saying it would respond “resolutely, without hesitation or restraint”.

The warning came on Saturday, a day after Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi threatened to “wipe Pakistan off the map” unless it stopped state-sponsored terrorism.

According to Dawn, the Army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), released a statement responding to what it called “provocative remarks” from India’s top political and military leadership.

“In the face of highly provocative statements from India’s defence minister and the chiefs of its Army and Air Force, we caution that a future conflict could bring cataclysmic devastation. Should fresh hostilities begin, Pakistan will not hold back. We will respond firmly, without hesitation or restraint,” the statement read.

Speaking at the Anupgarh military base in Rajasthan on Friday, Gen Dwivedi said Indian forces “will no longer show patience” if Islamabad continues supporting militancy.

"This time we will not maintain the restraint that we had in Operation Sindoor 1.0. This time we will do something that will make Pakistan think whether it wants to retain its place in geography or not,” he added.

The Army chief also told soldiers to remain prepared, saying: “If God wills, you will get an opportunity soon.”

His warning came after Indian Air Force chief Amar Preet Singh claimed earlier on Friday that Indian forces had shot down five Pakistani fighter jets, including F-16s and JF-17s, during intense hostilities around five months ago.

The confrontation stems from the Apr 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, that left 26 tourists dead.

The ISPR statement also referred to Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent remarks: “Our soldiers have both weapons and high morale. No challenge can stand before us. Whether it is terrorism or any other kind of problem, we have the capability to deal with and defeat them all.”

This statement was posted on Singh’s X account, according to Dawn.

On the prospect of a new attack, the ISPR said, “We shall shatter the myth of geographic immunity, hitting the farthest reaches of the Indian territory.”

Regarding India’s threat to “wipe Pakistan off the map,” the ISPR warned, “India must know that if such a situation arises, the erasure will be mutual.”
