The National Citizen Party (NCP), formed by leaders of the July 2024 mass uprising, has won six seats in Thursday’s parliamentary elections.
The party contested 30 constituencies as part of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance.
Among those elected are party Convenor Nahid Islam in Dhaka-11 and Southern Region Chief Organiser Hasnat Abdullah in Cumilla-4. The other winners are Abdullah Al-Amin in Narayanganj-4, Akhter Hossen in Rangpur-4, Atiqur Rahman Mujahid in Kurigram-2 and Senior Joint Convenor Abdul Hannan Masud in Noakhali-6.
Two other senior figures -- Northern Region Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam in Panchagarh-1 and Chief Organiser Nasiruddin Patwary in Dhaka-8 -- were defeated by BNP candidates after high-profile campaigns.
The NCP was formed by youth leaders after the fall of the Awami League government during the 2024 movement.
After securing registration from the Election Commission with the "Shapla Koli" (lotus bud) symbol, the party initially said it would contest all 300 seats. It later joined the Jamaat-led alliance and fielded candidates in 30 constituencies.
