Jam, poor roads to Babu Bazar Bridge

All vehicles, including buses to and from southern Bangladesh, used the Babu Bazar Bridge on the Buriganga River to leave or enter Dhaka as the Postogola Bridge was closed for repairs on Monday. The extra pressure, coupled with poor condition of the roads and roadwork, made traffic congestions worse in the areas surrounding the Babu Bazar bridge.

With the Postogola Bridge closed for repairs, buses from southern Bangladesh are entering Dhaka via Babu Bazar Bridge. The extra load has made it difficult for passengers to get off buses descending from the bridge onto the busy road in the Naya Bazar area. Photo: Mahmud Zaman Ovi

One lane of the road remains open for traffic while repair work is ongoing on the other side in the Naya Bazar area next to the Babu Bazar Bridge. Bricks, sand, and stones left on the road for repairs are adding to sufferings of passengers in traffic jams while the Postogola Bridge remains closed for repairs. Photo: Mahmud Zaman Ovi

Traffic congestion in the Naya Bazar area is further compounded by the long-distance bus halting on the middle of the street to drop passengers after descending from the Babu Bazar Bridge. Photo: Mahmud Zaman Ovi
