Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul elected BFUJ president for third time

Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul has been elected president of the pro-Awami League faction of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) for the third time.

BFUJ election-conducting committee Chairman Abu Taher announced the result of the by-election on Friday night.

Prime Minister’s Information Affairs Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, National Press Club President Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, BFUJ Senior Vice-President Zafar Wazed, and General Secretary Omar Faruq, among others, were present.

Ekushey TV CEO Bulbul bagged 1,065 votes. His closest rival Boishakhi TV CEO Ashok Chowdhury got 962 votes. The Daily Star’s Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan got 285 votes.

The post of BFUJ chief fell vacant on Jan 24 after the death of Altaf Mahmud, who was elected in the polls in November last year.

Bulbul had been the president for two consecutive terms before Mahmud.

As many as 1,782 of 3,786 BFUJ members cast their votes in Dhaka, Khulna, Jessore, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Bogra and Narayanganj from 9am to 5pm.
