The tally of deaths from mosquito-borne dengue has climbed to 43 after another individual died over the past 24 hours, while 386 new patients have been put under hospital care with the disease across Bangladesh.
The number of patients hospitalised with the disease this year rose to 10,682, while 19 of the fatalities were recorded in June alone.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said as many as 68 new patients were hospitalised in Dhaka city until Tuesday.
In addition, 73 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, eight in Mymensingh, 16 in Khulna, 19 in Chattogram, 163 in Barishal, and 30 in Sylhet.
As many as 1,230 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country.
Of them, 323 were hospitalised in the capital, with 907 across the rest of the country.
In 2024, a total of 101,214 patients were hospitalised due to dengue nationwide, with 575 fatalities reported.
This marks the third-highest number of hospitalisations due to dengue in the country’s history, while the death toll ranks as the second-highest.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and fatalities since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. That year also saw the most deaths, with 1,705.
