Amid the rising number of dengue cases in Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has fixed the fee for dengue diagnostic tests at Tk 50 in government hospitals and Tk 300 in private hospitals.
The DGHS has warned of punitive action against any institution charging more than the approved amount.
The instructions were given in a letter sent by DGHS Director (Hospital) Dr. Abu Hussain Md Moinul Ahsan on Monday.
The letter said, “The prices for dengue diagnosis tests at private hospitals have been set as follows: Dengue NS1 test at Tk 300, Dengue IgG and IgM tests at Tk 300, and CBC test at Tk 400.
“Legal action will be taken against any institution found charging extra fees.”
Another letter by Moinul mentioned the test fee for dengue NS1, Dengue IgG and Dengue IgM at government hospitals has been set at Tk 50. The price list of these tests for dengue diagnosis will be valid until Dec 31.
429 NEWLY INFECTED
As of Monday, 10,296 people were admitted to hospitals due to dengue in Bangladesh. Of them, 42 have died.
As many as 429 more people have been hospitalised in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours due to dengue infection, the highest single-day count so far this year.
Of the total patients admitted as of Monday, 2,746 patients are from Barguna, accounting for 26.67 percent of the total infected patients in the country.
So far, 12 people have died in Barguna, representing 28.57 percent of the total deaths this year.
INFECTIONS ON THE RISE IN BARGUNA
Infection from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease has been rising alarmingly in Barguna.
Amid this, the Barishal divisional director has been instructed to provide two ambulances to Barguna District Hospital temporarily.
Another letter to the director of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal, signed by Moinul, highlights the significant increase in dengue cases in Barguna.
Barguna District Hospital currently has twice as many patients as available beds, most of whom are dengue cases.
An order has been issued to train doctors at Barguna District Hospital in dengue treatment and to send four specialist doctors in medicine to help strengthen their capacity.
