Two more people have died from dengue in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, while 327 patients have been admitted to hospitals with the mosquito-borne disease.
A Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) bulletin issued on Monday said the latest fatalities raised this year's dengue death toll to 27.
Of them, nine deaths have been recorded in July alone.
The bulletin said the latest admissions were recorded between 8am on Sunday and the same time on Monday.
Among the newly admitted patients, 38 were hospitalised in facilities under the Dhaka North City Corporation, while 43 were admitted to hospitals under the Dhaka South City Corporation.
Another 61 patients were admitted to hospitals outside the two city corporation areas in Dhaka.
Outside the capital, Barishal Division recorded the highest number of new admissions with 61 patients, followed by Chattogram with 48, Khulna with 45, Mymensingh with 17, Rajshahi with nine, Rangpur with four and Sylhet with one.
During the same period, 230 dengue patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
According to the DGHS, a total of 8,650 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country since Jan 1.
Of them, 7,800 have recovered and returned home.
The DGHS has maintained records of dengue-related hospital admissions and deaths since 2000.
Bangladesh experienced its worst-ever dengue outbreak in 2023, when 321,179 people were admitted to hospitals with the disease and 1,705 people died.
Last year, more than 400 people died from dengue, while around 102,000 infections were recorded nationwide.
