Dhaka, Aug 24 (bdnews24.com)—Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has pledged that her government to assist in the making of late Tareque Masud's new film Kagojer Phool (the Paper Flower).
Hasina on Wednesday told Catherine Masud, the wife of celebrated director, and Manzuli Kazi, the wife of ATN News CEO Ashfaque (Mishuk) Munier, that she would extend her assistance for the film.
"The death of Tareque Masud has been an irreparable loss for the nation. His 'Muktir Gaan' was like flash of light in darkness," she said.
Saying that Mishuk's father Munier Chowdhury was her teacher, Hasina asked Manzuli to visit her in any case.
Younger sister of the prime minister, Sheikh Rehana and Mishuk's son Suhrid Munier were also present.
Three others were also killed on Aug 13 when their microbus collided head-on with a passenger bus on the Dhaka-Aricha highway at Ghior Upazila in Manikganj.
Co-director Catherine, artist Dhali Al Mamun, his painter wife Dilara Begum Jolly, and Tareque's production assistant Saidul Islam were also injured in the road crash, while returning after visiting a shooting location for the film.
Born in 1956 in Faridpur, Tareque directed a number of critically acclaimed films such as Muktir Gaan (The Song of Freedom) in 1995, Muktir Kotha (The Story of Freedom) in 1996 and Matir Moina (The Clay Bird), which won the International Critics' Prize and a FIPRESCI Prize at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival.
He made his directorial debut with the documentary Adam Surat (The Inner Strength) on the Bangladeshi painter SM Sultan in 1989. Tareque also ran a film production house named Audiovision along with his US-born wife Catherine.
